One day my friend was telling me that he was smelling something really nasty in his house like a dead animal.
- I ended up going to his house to see what could be going on.
I looked all around and checked the ductwork but I couldn’t find any dead animals. Then I ended up going under his house into the crawl space, and sure enough there was a dead possum next to a return duct that was disconnected. I ended up reconnecting the return duct so no animals or anything would get in there. I then got the dead possum in a trash bag to be thrown away. It was absolutely disgusting, but I guess that’s what friends are for. After we were able to solve this issue with the HVAC system, there were no more terrible smells coming from the ductwork system. I was saying to my friend that he should really think about enrolling in an HVAC service plan so that he would have HVAC technicians looking everything over regularly and keeping up with the HVAC system. This way, it would be unlikely that they would miss something like a disconnected return duct or even having animals getting into the ductwork system. I really have to say, animals and HVAC systems do not go together. Any number of things can kill these poor animals, and the last thing you want is to smell dead animals in your house! I’m actually on an HVAC service plan myself and I never have issues like this at all. I have learned a lot from the HVAC technicians who come out to my house also.
