I basically always wanted to travel the world and see the most exotic faraway locales.
Now that I have done so, and visited a dozen weird countries over the course of a year.
I guess I have gotten it out of my system. It’s simple to dump on your own home country, but after my tour I am definitely cheerful to be back at my household and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon. The toilets in other countries are extremely different and sometimes alarming, which was a large factor in my homecoming. Something else that genuinely surprised me was a lack of respected climate control in most countries. It turns out that the United States leads the world in Heating plus Air Conditioning devices, which are much more rare in other locations. If I am on a remote island, of course I don’t expect for all the people to have a/c devices, but in a major population hub like London or Paris, I really thought that more locations would have fantastic climate control. In the United States every single household, business, and rental property comes with a heating and cooling device, it’s expected. Traveling abroad I found that most hotels did not even offer rooms with actual climate control, or “air con” as they call it there. The locations that did have a/c devices were usually well outside of my price range, so I just did the best I could. With a succession of unusual and creepy toilets, and a general lack of respected a/c devices, is it any wonder I was ready to come back home? In America the people I was with and I actually know how to do a/c right!
