I called my grandmother and told her I was coming to visit. I hadn’t seen her for quite a while and I wanted to stop in while I was home from school for a couple days. When I walked in the dust was overwhelming, and I started sneezing and coughing. She didn’t seem to notice the dust and asked if I was getting sick. I told her the dust was tickling my nose, but she looked at me like I was crazy. She said she had just cleaned the house and there wasn’t any dust in her house. If I didn’t like how she kept house, she said I could leave and not come back. I was sure she wasn’t even sure who I was. I asked if she wanted to go to lunch with me, but she pushed me out the door and slammed it on me. I headed home to tell mom about grandma and how dusty her house was. She told me the HVAC system was broken, so there was no air purification in the house. The dust was so bad without the air purification that she couldn’t go in there anymore. I told her grandma had kicked me out. The next day, we both went to grandma’s house to check her out. It wasn’t just dusty, but it was also cold in the house. Mom asked if there was something wrong with the furnace, and Grandma tried to kick us both out this time. Mom told me it was time to get her out of the house and move her in with her and dad.
