Due to my recklessness, I have neglected my heating system and earned a hefty fine because of it.
At first, I tried to ignore the growing cold in my house, because I really didn’t want to pay that fine, but after not being able to sleep because I’m too busy shivering, I finally threw in the towel and called a HVAC supplier to come and take a look at my broken furnace.
He arrived quickly and inspected my heating unit. Unfortunately, it was worse than I thought. Since I had neglected it for so long, he actually recommended a full blown furnace installation, so I knew it must have been pretty bad. I went ahead and paid for an entirely new heating device. While he was installing it, I asked him for advice on how I could possibly prevent this from happening again, and he gave me a manual that explain in depth on proper heating and cooling maintenance. I didn’t really want to read a manual, but I didn’t want to deal with a repeat either, so I began reading the very long manual front to back. One of the things it suggested was to create a HVAC plan, specifically for air conditioning systems and heating systems. I actually hadn’t checked my air conditioning unit in awhile, so I went ahead and included my AC in the plan. It was suggested that your A/C should be formally checked at least once a year, but it was suggested in the Fall and Spring to prevent it from unexpectedly crashing. The furnace system was the same. I created my plan and pinned up in my calendar so I wouldn’t forget and have another problem like I did before.
