When I was a teenager the internet was still on its baby legs.
I had to use a horrible invention called dial-up, which used your phone line to connect to the net.
It was slow, and downloading even the smallest file took an hour. While you were online the phones wouldn’t work, except in cases where an incoming phone call disrupted your internet connection. Kids today don’t know how good they have it with wifi, because they have never known anything else! Another thing that younger people don’t seem to fully appreciate is modern HVAC technology, which has come a long way in the last 10 or 15 years. My son Josh has a smart thermostat in his house, one that can even respond to verbal commands. This means that his kids, who are not even tall enough to reach the thermostat yet, can set it however they want. When Josh was a kid he knew better than to touch the thermostat, because only I was allowed to do that! In his house he lets the kids have free reign over the climate control system, as if he doesn’t care how high the utility bills are! I always have to lay down the law for the kids when they come to my house, because they think they can control the thermostat here, as well. That is not the case! Just like when Josh was a kid, they are never allowed to touch the thermostat. If the climate control needs adjusting, they have to ask me to do it for them.
