I regularly had the wish to travel the world and see the most exotic faraway sites, but now that I have done so, and visited a dozen different countries over the course of a year, I guess I have gotten it out of my system altogether.
It’s easy to dump on your own home country, but after my tour I am genuinely happy to be home and don’t plan on leaving anytime soon.
The toilets in other countries are strange and sporadically spine-chilling, which was a pretty big factor in my homecoming! Something else that really surprised me was a lack of proper climate control in a vast majority of countries. It turns out that the USA leads the world in Heating and Air Conditioning equipment, which is fairly scarce in other places. If I am on a remote island, of course I don’t expect for most people to have air conditioner equipment, however in a major population hub like London or Paris, I definitely was thinking that more places would have climate control. In the US every single property, business, and rental location comes with heating and cooling equipment, it’s expected. Traveling abroad I came to learn that most hotels don’t even offer rooms with climate control, or “air con” as they call it there. The places that did have AC equipment were usually well outside of my price range, so I just did the best I could. With a succession of strange and creepy toilets, and a major lack of proper air conditioning equipment, is it any wonder I was ready to come back home? In America we truly get how to do AC right!
