While my father and brothers have always been obsessed with cars, I’m nothing but ambivalent.
I see vehicles as utilitarian tools that are necessary for getting you from point A to B, but anything beyond the bare minimum is “extra” in my mind.
Muscle cars are cool, but unless you’re an amateur racer I don’t know how you can appropriately appreciate its engine without breaking traffic laws and endangering other drivers on the road. That’s essentially what my best friend does with his sports cars. He takes them out onto the interstate highways and drives upwards to 90 miles per hour, sometimes higher than 100. It’s terrifying to think about the people he is endangering with these theatrics. I don’t care about having a car with a powerful engine. It’s a lot more important for me to have a car with a good air conditioner and heater inside. Our winters are extreme, so the second I jump into my car to drive to work I need the heat to work. My drive is 30 minutes in each direction; I would be miserable without good heat during our cold winters. Then when we get to summer, temperatures sometimes climb into the 100s. It’s during these heat waves when I need a good air conditioner in my car. That’s why I am essentially obsessed with having good climate control systems in my vehicles, regardless of any other factors or features. I just want a good air conditioner and heater in my car no matter what. At least I will be comfortable during my commutes to and from work.
