I went for a job interview.

I had been looking for my perfect job for almost a year, and I was sure I had finally found it.

  • I put in an application and waited to be called for an interview.

It took two weeks for them to call me, and I was on needles and pins as I waited. When the HR department called, I talked to them while fighting to keep my composure, then I screamed when I hung up. I was to go into their office the next day and interview for the job. I wasn’t even in the office when I noticed the foul odor in the air. I swore I could smell the bathrooms, cigarette smoke, and everything they had cooked in the break room over the last year. It was so bad, that I couldn’t breathe properly. I wondered what my dad and husband would say if they walked in and smelled these odors. Dad was the owner of the local HVAC company and my husband worked for him as an HVAC technician. I was sure there was a problem with the HVAC system, but I was also sure they needed a good air purification system installed. I couldn’t sit there any longer without holding my nose. I told her I appreciated the interview, but if the entire building smelled this bad, I couldn’t work. She tried to tell me I would get used to the odor, but I knew differently. Unless they repaired the HVAC system and installed a whole building air purification system, I would work for them, and they would end up with sick people.
