I had the fans on, and windows were open, so the heat wouldn't be stifling.

I couldn’t get the furnace to turn off last week, and it was stifling in the house.

I had the fans on and all the windows open, but nothing was helping.

It was cold outside, but it was cool enough I didn’t want to go without heat. I called the HVAC company and told them there was a problem with the HVAC system. No matterm what I did, it was just getting hotter in the house. Two hours later, the HVAC technician was in the house. The first thing he looked at was our thermostat, and he said it appeared to be all right. He checked the batteries and the thermostat itself. He then looked at the furnace. I didn’t know what he was looking for, but I wasn’t sure he knew either. He talked about components in the furnace that could stop it from running or from taking orders from the thermostat. I was a new homeowner and the idea of the thermostat talking to the furnace had me laughing. He agreed it sounded odd, but there were components that worked together to get more heat and air conditioning, or less. It took him a while to find the problem, and I didn’t ask what it was. All I knew was that I couldn’t close the windows and turn off the fans, and still be comfortable in the house. Next year, I’m planning on purchasing a new HVAC system, but for now, I need to keep this one working well until I can save the rest of the money.
