He demanded I pay him upfront.

I called the new local HVAC company that had recently established in our area. I had no problems with our old HVAC company, but I wanted to see what the competition was like. All I wanted done was the inspection of my furnace, that was done in the fall. I was certain everything was fine, but I didn’t like missing the annual inspection. Even though the furnace hadn’t been used in six months, I still wanted to make sure no little critters had taken up residency while it wasn’t in use. When the new HVAC tech arrived, he told me he needed payment up front for the inspection. I had never heard such a thing, and I wasn’t prepared to pay upfront for the inspection. I wanted to know what was wrong with the furnace before paying for the repairs. If there was nothing wrong with the furnace, I was fairly certain what it would cost for the inspection since I had been having them done for the last six years. I asked him what he charged for the inspection and he quoted me a price that was nearly double what i paid my regular HVAC company. He said inflation had hit everyone and since gas was high, he had to charge extra. I thanked him for his time and said I would have someone else do the inspection. That’s when he said he charged for his time from the time he left the HVAC company office until he got back. My husband escorted him out and filed a complaint while I called our old HVAC company.
