The name on the check did not match the name on the license

My boss is one of the only people in this town that still accepts checks for services.

The guy is super old school.

He’s been in business since the 1970s. Back then, everyone used their checkbooks to pay for services. We’ve been taking checks from customers as long as I have been a heating and air conditioning repair technician. I’ve been with the company for 18 years. I told the boss that it is time to join the 21st century, but he prefers the feeling of paper, checks or cash. In fact, customers receive a 10% discount on all services if they pay with cash. One of my jobs last week was downtown at a residential customer’s apartment. The guy wanted a brand new HVAC unit installed. I completed all the work for the replacement, but I had the customer pay for the services before I ordered all of the machinery. The guy tried to give me a check to pay for the heat pump and air conditioner. Normally, we would have no problems taking a check for $4,000, but I didn’t feel comfortable accepting the check because the last name on the check was different from the name on the driver’s license. It wasn’t closed and I didn’t see any explanation for the problem. The customer was outraged, but I told the guy that he would have to talk to my boss to get approval. I didn’t want to take a bad check and get stuck with $4,000 worth of merchandise that could not be paid for.
