That coldsnap genuinely came out of nowhere, didn’t it? I suppose after such an extended summer, plus elevated temps in general, I got lulled into a false sense of security, and anyone who lives around here knows that our winters are short, however intensely cold.
It may only be for a few weeks, however we will be guaranteed to get snow, ice, plus sleet through that whole period.
Once the Wintertide breaks, we are nice for another more than nine weeks or so, however in the midst of Wintertide you have to hunker down plus ride it out. This is why it’s such a exhausting thing that it snuck up on me, because I haven’t;’ had our central heating system tested since last year, however with weather that gets so cold, you cannot afford to have any problems with your heating system. A house with no heating in the dead of Wintertide is not fit to stay in. I remember as a kid we had a large problem with the furnace in the basement, plus our dad took us all to a hotel for the evening. The people I was with and I literally could not stay a single evening in our house without heating, that’s how frosty it can get! I take a lot of precautions, just in case something does happen, so I have numerous space heating systems (enough to have a single in every family room). The people I was with and I also have a fireplace, plus I have enough of a woodpile out back to heat the house with fire for several, maybe more than two weeks. I would still be more comfortable with a central Heating and Air Conditioning inspection, though.
