I know everyone talks about how horrible it is to hire help around the house, but personally, I didn’t understand. I’d always hired professionals that were wonderful, but maybe it was because I was lucky! The HVAC company always sent technicians that were on time and knowledgeable, the plumber I used was one of the nicest people I knew, and my electrician always did a great job. However, I finally had a horrible experience like everyone had always talked about. Last week, I hired the same HVAC company to come service my HVAC system for the cooler weather. When the HVAC professional showed up 30 minutes late, I began to panic. I was relieved when he finally rang my doorbell. However, as soon as I answered the door, I caught a whiff of alcohol. I stood at the doorstep listening to the HVAC professional tell me that he was there to service my HVAC system, but I couldn’t get past the alcohol smell. I kindly asked him if he’d been drinking, and he became really angry and defensive. I didn’t want to cause a scene, so I told him that I didn’t need to have my HVAC system serviced after all and shut the door and locked it behind me. I immediately called the HVAC company and explained what happened to a manager. They were extremely apologetic, and sent a different HVAC professional over right away. They also serviced my HVAC system that day free of charge for the horrible inconvenience.
