The preacher at our congregation is most definitely into the ‘less is more’ mantra, and encourages us to all try to comply with this philosophy.
Every one of us bought into it in the beginning and tried to have garage sales to provide things away that we weren’t using or didn’t require anymore. This was wonderful for a few months, however when this preacher kept droning on and on about it for a year, I knew there was going to be a complication. Less is more can certainly only apply to certain situations, allow me to explain: the air condition device in the church is terrible. During the Summer months, you can barely even tell that it is on, but it feels something like a mere breeze created by a fly’s wing. Every one of us asked the preacher for an up-to-date Heating and A/C device for months, even introducing him to a Heating and A/C tech who visited our congregation every other Sunday from the nearby towns. The Heating and A/C device worker kindly offered a generous bid to the preacher. The board of the church said they had the budget for it too. The preacher of course declined the Heating and A/C device bid and even the notion of purchasing an up-to-date Heating and A/C device entirely, saying ‘less is more,’ as he walked away. This was quite aggravating, and so while the preacher was away, the other members of the congregation asked the Heating and A/C device tech to install the up-to-date Heating and A/C device throughout the church in the time he was away. The up-to-date Heating and A/C device honestly worked so well, and kept the entire building nice and cool via its ducts and vents placed throughout the building. The preacher returned and was so relieved to see that we had made the decision for him, he simply smiled and did not say anything about it.
