The preacher at our congregation is very into the ‘less is more’ mantra, and encourages us to all try to comply with this philosophy.
We all bought into it at first, and tried to have garage sales to give things away that we weren’t using or didn’t need anymore. THis was good for a few months, but when this preacher kept droning on and on about it for a year, I knew there was going to be an issue. Less is more can truly only apply to certain situations, allow me to explain: the air condition unit in the church is terrible. During the summer months, you can barely even tell that it is on. It feels like a mere breeze created by a fly’s wing. We asked the preacher for a new HVAC system for months, even introducing him to an HVAC tech who visited our congregation every other Sunday from the nearby towns. The HVAC tech kindly offered a generous quote to the preacher, that the board of the church said they had the budget for. The preacher of course declined the HVAC system quote and even the notion of purchasing a new HVAC unit all together, saying ‘less is more,’ as he walked away. This was incredibly frustrating, and so while the preacher was away, the other members of the congregation asked the HVAC tech to install the new HVAC system throughout the church in the time he was away. The new HVAC system worked so well, and kept the entire building nice and cool via its ducts and vents placed throughout the entirety.The preacher returned and was so relieved to see that we had made the decision for him, he simply smiled and did not say a word.
