Running is my favorite workout

I exercise six days per week. To keep things interesting and maximize the benefits of my efforts, I make sure to change up the style of workout. I might focus entirely on high intensity cardio and combine jumping rope with burpees, jumping jacks and squat jumps. I sometimes target strength training and utilize straightforward weight lifting, lunges, squats, push-ups and plank holds. To alleviate impact on my joints, I typically ride my bike at least once a week. I love to swim or kayak for a workout and for the sake of balance and flexibility, incorporate yoga poses into my regiment. However, my favorite workout is to go for a run. I like how easy it is. I don’t need any specialized equipment. I just lace up my sneakers, make time to stretch and warm up and then take off. It’s a great way to work a lot of different muscles, burn a tremendous amount of calories and work both the heart and lungs. I play music and take the opportunity to clear my head. I enjoy the scenery and try to choose a variety of routes. Some of my paths are very flat while others involve inclines. I have a route that winds through the middle of town and takes me by the local shops, restaurants and cafes. I have another path that meanders through the woods. I have learned that a good quality pair of running shoes is a necessity. I’ve also invested in specialized clothing to accommodate the weather. If I didn’t need to rest my feet, ankles and knees, I would probably run every day.
