My Parents Bought Me a Ductless Mini Split System

I should’ve known that they took my gift joke seriously when they stopped asking me what I wanted.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when someone asks me what I want as a gift. Whether it be for my birthday or for Christmas, I’ve always felt uncomfortable asking for something specific. I never know what price range is acceptable, and I feel a little selfish. Personally, I believe that if someone really wants to give me something, they shouldn’t need to ask me what I want. They should either already know based on things I’ve shown interest in before, or they should give me something based on the heart. However, for my 30th birthday, my parents were relentless about asking me what I wanted as a gift. They kept telling me that 30 was a big milestone and they wanted to celebrate by getting me a really nice gift. Jokingly, I told them I wanted a ductless mini split system for my home office in the basement. I knew how expensive the ductless mini split systems were, because I’d been looking into getting one for a few months. My parents took what I said and ran with it full force. I should’ve known that they took my gift joke seriously when they stopped asking me what I wanted. Sure enough, on my 30th birthday, my parents showed up with a ductless mini split system that heated and cooled up to 500 square feet. They said the man at the hardware store said it was simple to install, but I could schedule a professional if needed. I love my new ductless mini split system, but I wish I would’ve suggested something less expensive. I can’t believe my parents went out and bought me one!
