This fall, I’ve decided to have my dad move in with us.
He’s been having a few health issues and I just don’t feel comfortable leaving him at home long anymore.
He’s already told me that he doesn’t want to live in an assisted living home or any place like that, and so I’ve been thinking about letting him move in here with me for a while now. I already got new carpet and painting done in the in-law suite downstairs and now I just need to decide what sort of HVAC improvements we need to make before he moves in. My dad tends to stay cold all the time, and so I probably don’t need to make any air conditioning improvements to the space. I have a window unit air conditioner in there to help with cooling down the area. It’s a little more square footage than my central air conditioning system is made for, so I tried to give it a little boost with the window unit. Now, I’m just concerned about the heating system in the winter. I’m actually thinking that it might be a good choice to put a ductless window split A/C unit in there for my dad. The one that I looked at also has a remote control to adjust the thermostat, and I know that my dad will love that. He has always loved all kinds of little gadgets and gizmos, and I think that being able to adjust the heating and cooling from the comfort of his favorite chair by the TV.
