I’ve been working at the same HVAC company for the past couple of years and I really like my job there.
I’m also the only female HVAC technician at the company.
I think that being the only woman at the company gives me a certain edge. It’s almost like they cater to me, to a certain extent. My boss always lets me choose my own schedule and whenever I have to go do a heating or cooling repair at a residential job site, they always send another HVAC technician with me. It makes me laugh, because I know that I could handle myself just fine with any of our furnace or air conditioning repair clients. I trust my clients completely, so I never feel unsafe at any of the house calls I have to make to do HVAC repairs or installations. But my boss seems to feel the need to protect me at all costs. I have to say that I really like the way they all seem to want to take care of me. Not only that, but they also tend to help me out when there’s any heavy lifting to be done. I know that I definitely have job security at this HVAC company, because my boss has told me that he will never hire another female HVAC technician for his company. I hope that means that he could never find another woman who could do the HVAC technician job as well as me and not that I’m such a terrible employee that he wouldn’t want another one of us!
