I Added a Ductless Mini Split System to My Basement Office

When the pandemic hit, I was forced to pack up my belongings at the office and move everything into my home to work for an unknown amount of time.

My wife’s job made her do the same, which sent our household into a chaotic mess. For 2 weeks, the two of us worked from our dining room table as best as we could. There were computers, printers, tangled cords, and papers everywhere. However, when there was no sign of the pandemic easing up, my wife and I decided to make a few changes. My wife continued to work from the dining room, and I decided to move my work space to the basement. We had 300 square feet of finished basement, which was currently housing our washer and dryer. The only problem was that this space wasn’t connected to our central HVAC system. In order to make my work space comfortable, I called the local HVAC company and asked about installing a ductless mini split system. They had one on sale, so I bought it that day and had someone come install it the following afternoon. The HVAC professional assured me that it would heat and cool my office space evenly, while keeping my utility bills low. I wouldn’t be relying on my central HVAC plan to heat and cool, and the ductless mini system would only heat and cool when I needed it. Because the basement was so small, it wouldn’t take long to heat and cool, making my workspace much more comfortable.
