Getting involved in physical fitness

I never managed to exercise very often in high school, because I worked a job as a dishwasher most nights.

I had very little time and was always exhausted.

I only had a few minutes at home after school before I had to show up for my shift at the restaurant. I never was all that interested in working out and never participated in any athletics. It wasn’t until college that I finally realized the value in taking better care of myself. My roommate was a regular at the local YMCA. He’d workout several times a week and was always telling me what a great place it was. I finally agreed to go along because of the swimming pool. I wanted to swim. The pool was really great, and I started swimming laps. Every time my roommate said he was going to the YMCA, I went along with him. I started to develop stronger muscles and greater stamina. I lost some weight. As I was getting into shape, I became more interested in weightlifting. My roommate shared his workout training program with me. It was extremely strenuous and that got me motivated to work harder. After I had been going to the YMCA with my roommate for about six months, I realized that along with getting in better physical shape, I’d gained confidence. I had a more positive outlook. I was getting more attention from pretty girls and had more energy. I have been conscientious about regular exercise and good eating habits ever since. After college, once I joined the workforce, I signed up for a gym membership.
