For a long time, I drove this old, beat-up truck.
It was a gift from my Grandpa, and I think that was why I kept it around for so long.
Despite my parents’ protest, my Grandpa began teaching me how to drive when I was 9… While other girls were doing girly things, I was under the hood of some car reading basic mechanics. My mom tried her best to teach me lady stuff, however my interest was more in mechanics. This is why I later went to learn mechanical engineering in college! Grandpa started teaching me how to repair and drive this truck when I was nine. He later gifted it to me when I was 14 however wouldn’t legally drive it until I turned 16. Except for getting me from point A to B, nothing in the truck seemed to work, including the AC. There were several summers when I longed to have the A/C component in the truck working. But, having it fixed costs a small fortune. I opted to leave the windows open while driving to provide natural air conditioning. The money I made from my several tasks was for buying a current car. When I turned 19, dad added me the remaining amount, and I bought a current car. This wasn’t a minute-hand that would have issues here and there. This was a new, fresh, smart car with a functioning A/C system. I loved the fact that I didn’t have to drive in Summer without AC, however I never got rid of the truck my Grandpa gave to me. It’s still in my garage, and soon I hope to get the heating and A/C system set up.
