There is something to be said for being hot while I was in the winter.
I’m not talking about being inside with the Heating, Ventilation & A/C gas furnace cranked either.
What I am referring to is living in a venue where the Wintertide is on the mild side. My family is lucky enough to appreciate just that. Granted, our adolescents have never known any uncommon so they have less of an appreciation for our winters. My partner and I, on the other hand, have had to gut it out through some of the toughest winters this continent can produce. So, when the two of us relocated to our partner’s hometown to raise a family, I was overjoyed with the fact that all that snow shoveling was a thing of the past. The weather here is quite remarkable. I don’t feel I have ever seen as several perfectly clear and deeply red skies in our entire life. The ability to be active outdoors is nearly unparalleled. However, there is a bit of a tradeoff that has to be accepted. The Summer here can be brutally hot. And, that does not mean there are some absolutely tepid weeks. No, there is a full 3 to 4 month stretch where the heat is simply oppressive. My first summer, I spent a lot of time hunkered down inside the Heating, Ventilation & A/C cooled condo or office. I avoided going outside as though I would melt. However, with the help of a good friend, I l received how to just embrace the fact that it was going to be absolutely tepid here in the summer. He taught myself and others how to manage our time around the heat so I could still appreciate being outside. Basically, the plan was to be inside the Heating, Ventilation & A/C cooling while I was in the late afternoon heat.
