My dad had a plan for me ever since I was a child.
He had hopes that when I grew up, I’d take over his Heating and A/C corporation.
As I got older, I tried to tell him that I didn’t want to be an Heating and A/C professional, even though he didn’t listen. I think he just really hoped that I’d change my mind when the time came, but that isn’t how things shook out. When I graduated, he told me he had already checked the local community college. They were running an Heating and A/C technical college over the summer season. I could have my certification before the end of the year, however under his tutelage, he was sure I could take over the corporation by the time I was twenty-two. I indulged him for a while, even though I knew I had to tell him I wasn’t going to college for Heating and A/C. I talked to mom and asked if she would tell him, even though she reminded me I was a man. It was my duty to talk to my dad plus not come to mommy for help. That night, I sat down to talk to my dad. He was going on plus on about me being a Heating and A/C professional. He said he could not wait till he could retire. I asked him to listen to me. I explained to him that I had never wanted to be an Heating and A/C professional. I knew this was hard for him to hear, but it had to be said. He thanked me for my honesty, however it took a long period of sulking before he talked to me again. However my sister wanted to own the Heating and A/C business down the line, so it ended up working out.
