This year for my Christmas, I told my husband that I wanted him to get me a new thermostat as my gift. I am usually a very practical person, and so he was not really all that surprised to hear that I wanted something to go along with our HVAC system as a gift. It’s nowhere close to Christmas, but I wanted to give my husband a whole lot of time to do some research on different types of thermostat units. I knew that I wanted an upgrade to our current thermostat. Our current thermostat is probably almost twenty years old. I think that it’s the same thermostat that the HVAC contractor installed in our house when they first built the place. So obviously, it’s past time to put in a new thermostat. I’ve been reading quite a bit about smart thermostat units. Apparently, a smart thermostat unit will help us save money on our heating and cooling bills once we get one installed. Programming your smart thermostat correctly can end up saving you around twenty five percent of your energy costs in the first year alone. I told him to make sure that our HVAC system is compatible with whichever smart thermostat unit he chooses. Sometimes smart thermostats won’t work with certain HVAC systems. What I want for Christmas is to have the new smart thermostat installed and up and running on Christmas morning. I don’t want the thermostat wrapped up and under the tree, so I had to give my husband ample warning. I know it will take him a good six months to get this accomplished because he’s that slow at buying gifts!
