Change and all that goes with it are a part of life.
The older I get, the more apparent it is that resisting change just makes it tougher.
However, I know firsthand how comforting a routine or a set structure can be. When that is pulled out from under us, it can feel as though we are adrift. I always loved my routine. I got up, went ot work and then came home to relax in the HVAC comfort of my home. I never thought it would change. And then it did. That’s the other thing about change, it can catch you when you least expect it. I know that I fully expected to be in my position with our company until the day I chose to retire. Funny how life works. One minute I was in my perfectly HVAC maintained office being asked to come to the conference room. The next minute I was being shown the door. That’s how quick and surgical my career with that company was ended. However, I still wanted and needed to work. So, I did what I had to do and started my own consulting company from my home office. It has been a really different sort of experience. I am now working for those I once competed against. However, I still have a perfectly HVAC maintained office. That’s right, with some of my severance money, I had the HVAC people put in a ductless HVAC unit. My home office is now as comfortable, if not more so, than my downtown office once was. Change happens and life rolls on.
