Dad explained why a furnace smells like it's burning

We have a cabin in the woods where we love to go each winter. This has become a family tradition ever since I was 2. Dad inherited the cabin from his favorite aunt and opted to keep it in the family. He used some inheritance money to do minor repairs. No matter the season, there were always people who wanted to go and stay in the cabin. Since then, he and his mom have been running a successful holiday rental business. But, for one week each winter, they reserve it for our family getaway. The views from that area simply amaze no matter the season. Last winter, we went on the trip as usual, and dad had to turn on the new heating system. He’d gotten a furnace system set up in the cabin that summer to replace a too old heater to keep working. I noticed a burning smell in the house as the furnace system began warming the cabin. Dad explained that there was no need to panic since the burning smells would disappear. It had been several months since installing the new furnace system in the cabin. The dust had accumulated on the heating system hence the burning smell. Dad added that the only time to act was when the burning smell seemed endless. That was an indication that there was something wrong with the heating system. But, if it only lasted a short while, there was nothing wrong, and we were soon enjoying the warm cabin. I complemented dad on the new furnace because there were no more cold spots in the cabin like the previous winter.
