It’s hot toiling on the line

I work on what both of us call “the line” in the best restaurant in the city. It is called “the line” after the front lines in old military battles. The Front Line were the soldiers that plunged headlong into battle, in addition to fought the hardest. As a line cook, that is my job every day. The head chef gets all the praise, the wait staff gets all the tips, in addition to I get to work my fingers to the bone every day for the hope of one day getting promoted. All chefs start on the Front Line, in addition to work their way up. It is not easy work, for example, did you assume that there isn’t any cooling system in the entryway? That seems like cruel in addition to unrespected punishment to have so several heating elements in the same room, in addition to yet no outlet for cooling. The reason is quite easy – because of all the heat generated while cooking, the cooling system simply does not work. If all the stoves in addition to ovens were turned off, the cooling system vents would cool down the room in a matter of hours, however that never happens unless the place is closed. When both of us are in the weeds at a big dining service, all the cooling system is directed towards the dining area, because separate from that none of us get paid. Since the cooling system vent can’t permeate the wet heat of the cooking service, both of us just crank up the fans in addition to open all the heating exhaust vents. One day I will be a head chef, in addition to get to like the cooling system with the buyers.
