We Wanted to Create a Playroom in The Basement, But We Needed Heat and Air

As my kids get older, they accumulate more stuff. It seems like every day they come home with something new from school or from their friend’s birthday parties. I do my best to eliminate all the toys they are no longer using in order to clear up space, but I never seem to make a significant dent. The problem with all this stuff, is that it gets scattered about the house. I wish I could contain it all in their bedrooms, but they very rarely play in their rooms. They like to gather all their toys and play together throughout the house. After talking to my husband about the issue, we decided to create a playroom for them. I wanted to make the room as kid friendly as possible, and create a space that they actually wanted to play in. Not only would this keep their stuff in one area, but they could learn the importance of keeping their own space clean. The only free space we had in the house was the basement. Although it was technically finished with drywall and carpet, it didn’t have heat or air. When my husband and I looked into having the ductwork extended into the basement, we realized how expensive it would be. Neither of us wanted to spend that kind of money on heat and air, so we spoke with an HVAC professional about installing a ductless mini-split system. It was a small device that attached to the upper wall, which heated and cooled a specific space. There was no need for any attachment to our current HVAC system, and the kids could control it themselves. We loved this idea! We loved how inexpensive the ductless mini-split system was too!
