I have reduced my power bill by switching up the way I use my Heating, Ventilation, & A/C system, prior to working from home, my energy bill would hover around the same each month.
But then, once I began working at my house, I noticed a drastic rise in my energy consumption; While at home, I kept the cooling system on 71 degrees thinking that was a fantastic comfortable temperature while I worked.
Turns out it wasn’t because all it did was cost myself and others extra money each month. I didn’t have a Smart or programmable thermostat, so I used to manually change the temperature on the thermostat. And now that I think about it, I used to adjust the temperature 3 or 4 times in 1 day. Anyway, after seeing the increase in my energy bill, I was on a mission to find ways to conserve energy & to save money. One of the most popular suggestions was to install a programmable or Smart thermostat. I did get the Smart thermostat which has been working great. But what I also did was to install ceiling fans inside my home office & inside my office. That 1 little trick has saved myself and others so much money. I can set the indoor temperature higher & use the fan to give extra cooling. In fact, the Department of Energy has stated that when using a ceiling fan you can increase the temperature on the thermostat by 4 degrees without losing any level of comfort. Not only will you still think cool & comfortable while working from home, but you will also start to save some money by doing this 1 trick.
