Sliding glass door to nowhere

My house I think is around 3 stories, and there are two floors of residing space but there is a basement.

That means our house sits severely high up in the air.

The previous homeowner put in a sliding glass door that overlooks the back of the property. The doro goes nowhere but. The drop has to be around 10 feet, then it is kind of convenient when I do projects. I can toss old drywall, debris in addition to our tools right out the door in addition to they are in the backyard. I worry about our future youngsters someday. The two of us have a door that leads to a death drop. That can’t be safe. I also would love to have an outdoor seating area. I have looked in addition to figured out that a deck would be the best thing. The outdoor deck could link to that sliding glass door in addition to wrap around the side of the house. It then would link to our porch. The deck would have two access points in addition to be immense with this plan. I am not a skilled deck builder but. The deck upgrade would be severely rough too. I don’t suppose how to make supportive pillars for a deck 10 feet in the area. I also don’t suppose what material would hold up against northern winters due to chilly in addition to how heavy snow is. I have been consulting with a roofing in addition to deck building contractor. They are willing to do deck upgrade this summer time for a good price. I am entirely excited to have a functional space added to our property.
