My family has been in the custom furniture building corporation since before we moved to this country. My great-Grandfather as well as great-Grandmother immigrated to this country when they were young. They brought little more than the clothes on their backs as well as my great-Grandfather’s tools. While he had a regular job as a maintenance worker at a local apartment building, he spent all of his free time designing as well as building gorgeous pieces of furniture. News of his talent slowly spread as well as he eventually quit his day-work to devote all of his time to building furniture and cabinetry. My great-Grandfather was commissioned to design as well as build a study room set for the governor’s mansion. This garnered him a wonderful deal of attention and so his corporation expanded beyond what he could handle out of his garage. He rented a building, set up shop as well as taught his 2 sons the business. My whole family has a hand in the custom furniture building process. My mother as well as aunt handle, billing,ordering inventory, scheduling as well as marketing. My father, uncle, siblings as well as one of my aunts are all licensed craftsmen who build custom pieces from scratch. They fulfill custom furniture orders from all over the world for chairs, couches, tables, dressers, cupboards and some pieces that don’t even have a name. I am involved in the textile side of the corporation, so I work with upholstery, custom draperies, bedding as well as more. The two of us ensure we have quality fabrics in all unusual styles, textures as well as designs. I just get a kick out of assisting customers in finding the perfect fabric to match their tastes as well as what they need to function in the space.
