For our supplier I used to own a chiller system rather than rent an industrial chiller, but owning a chiller system does have some benefits.
Over time it is cost effective to own rather than spend our savings a little bit in rent per month; You also have the guarantee that the chiller you purchase is brand new, with a chiller rental business, you are kind of getting what they have on hand, but the chiller might be old, not the right size or category that you want.
Those things can absolutely be corrected if you complain, but now the chiller is being removed & that is hard on the building’s structure… I ended up increasing back to chiller rentals because our supplier became seasonal. The shut down process for a chiller system is lengthy & complex. There is a lot of cleaning that needs to be done & a whole laundry list of things that need to be properly powered down & drained, but for example, if you don’t properly drain the water in the chiller system, you are facing possible corrosion, disinfection kits need to be bought & there is a dry or wet lay up process that needs to be completed, but shutting down the chiller every season became a stressful, expensive & time consuming process. I only used the chiller for a few months out of the year too. To me, it is worth spending a little bit to have the guarantee that someone else will make sure the chiller is shut down & cleaned right. If it is not, I can just complain about a new one.
