The preacher at our congregation is totally into the ‘less is more’ mantra, and encourages everybody to comply with this philosophy! We honestly bought into it at first, and tried to enjoy garage sales to supply things away that we weren’t using or didn’t need anymore.
This wasn’t bad for a few months, but when this preacher didn’t quit going on about it for a year, I knew there was going to be a certain setback.
Less is more can honestly only apply to particular situations, allow me to elaborate: the air conditioning machine in the church is not so fantastic, but during the overheated season months, you can barely even tell that it is actually working! It essentially feels like a breeze created by a fly’s wing. We chose to ask the preacher for a new Heating & A/C machine for months, even introducing him to a really nice Heating & A/C tech who visited our congregation from time to time from the nearby towns. The Heating & A/C machine tech kindly provided a generous quote to the preacher, that the board of the church said they could cover the cost for. The preacher of course declined the Heating & A/C machine quote and even the whole idea of purchasing a new Heating & A/C machine altogether, saying ‘less is more,’ as he left. This was incredibly aggravating, and so while the preacher was away, the other members of the congregation asked the Heating & A/C machine tech to install the new Heating & A/C machine throughout the church in the time he was not actually there. The new Heating & A/C machine worked so well, and kept the entire building nice and cool. The preacher returned and was so relieved to see that we had made the choice for him, he simply smiled and did not say anything much about it.
