When I grew up I thought that we needed to go to work at an office job all day until we were at least 65 years old.
This is why I got my degree in mechanical engineering so I could buy all the things to make me happy like everyone else. Well, after a few years on the job in the Valley in Cali, I soon discovered that the nine to five wasn’t for me. But, it’s not easy to walk away from a big salary when you’re only 30 years old. I originally told my boss that yes I would stay. But after a few days in that air conditioned cubicle staring at a screen, I realized that no amount of money could keep me there and I left. That was 22 years ago now and I never regretted it for a minute. I remember the heated air that would come out of the ventilation at work almost made me sick from the dust in it. They didn’t clean the ductwork and it created all of this dust and allergic reactions in me that made my miserable job even worse! I used to tape $140 on my cubicle wall to inspire me to keep working and that the money was all worth it, that almost sounds like a sitcom. The funny thing is, the company I worked for built AC compressors and filtration systems but they couldn’t seem to keep their own air conditioners clean and dust free. Sometimes, life itself can offer the best material for a working comedian.
