I hope my HVAC dies soon

I have been secretly hoping my HVAC equipment will die on me.

I bought my home and it came with a central HVAC unit.

The device is over 17 years old and it takes up a lot of space. The indoor air handler sits in a closet and takes up the whole space. I have nowhere to put cleaning supplies because it is so big. The outdoor air compressor is hidden behind the house, but it makes an awful noise. A high pitched screech happens once a day and it is my HVAC unit. I know a loud screech isn’t a good sound. I have tried to get a HVAC contractor to fix it, but the guy said it was a manufacturer defect. He said even if he changed all the inner workings in my equipment, the unit would still make a noise. He recommended waiting until it died and just buying brand new. I read that my system could last 20-25 years though. I don’t want to wait almost ten years with a loud screeching sound and no storage. I haven’t been treating my HVAC well. I don’t change the air filter that often, call for HVAC service or even get ductwork cleaning. I am hoping it dies fairly soon and then I am going to choose a ductless option for my home. I want the indoor air handlers on the wall and out of the way. I want the capability to have HVAC zone control. I want to have a silent in operation system and my closet to store my cleaning stuff.
