Attending the gym as a family

My husband and I enrolled at a fitness center several years ago.

Once our kids entered high school, we added them to a family plan. Sometimes, we all head to the fitness center together as a family on the weekends. It’s a great way to spend a couple of hours. Everyone does their own thing for a couple of hours. My husband and sons tend to focus mainly on strength training. They like the free weights, battle ropes and punching bags. My daughter and I prefer cardio workouts. We typically take advantage of the stationary bikes, treadmills and rowing machines. We’ve all tried various group fitness classes. We’ve enjoyed Tae Bo, Zumba, spin and yoga. My family prioritizes our physical fitness. My husband and I were athletes all through high school and college. My boys play hockey and my daughter is a gymnast. We often compete against one another in our fitness goals. It’s a great way to stay motivated. One of the best features of the fitness center is the indoor pool. My whole family enjoys swimming laps for a workout. It is an especially beneficial exercise because swimming avoids impact on the joints. We often race each other in the pool. Afterward, we enjoy relaxing in the hot tub or steam room. We are fortunate that we have access to such a great facility. My kids have learned the benefits of taking good care of their physical health. It’s a way for us to bond as a family.
