Over my fifteen year career working as a certified HVAC repair tech I have been able to meet some pretty amazing people. While the job has always been one that is demanding both physically and mentially, having met such amazing customers and fellow repair techs have made it a true joy. I knew that this was going to be the job for me back when I was just starting out and on an apprenticeship with an HVAC repair company in my hometown. I had always imagined that the customers would be very rude and short with me while I was working on the broken down HVAC systems at their houses, but instead they were quite the opposite. I know that this might not be the same experience that people have had who work in big cities, but it has always been the case for me. I don’t think I can count how many times I have been offered a drink during my breaks or offered dinner if I was working late in the evening. Over the years the bonds that I was able to create with these customers only grew stronger and I am now legitimate friends with some of the people I have worked for all this time. As I get closer to retirement I am making sure to enjoy every day that I have been working as a certified HVAC repair tech because I know it won’t last forever. Most people hate the job they have, but I am thankful for mine and I will miss it when it is time to call it quits.
