Year after year, my church hosts a shopping trip event for the ladies of the church and and their friends. The idea of it is always to give the ladies some time for them to enjoy themselves and go searching. It is one of the most popular weekends of the year. Everyone gets together in small groups and chooses their own individual shopping destinations. The entire party, though, stays in the same exact hotel, and we have a meeting in a conference room on the first night to play games and have a question and answer session. Normally, this meeting is the best part of the trip, but last time, it was a miserable experience. At the introduction of the meeting, everything was great. The thermostat was set at the perfect temperature, and the indoor air quality was amazing. We were all having a lot of fun. After a little while, though, we noticed that we were getting colder. The air conditioning had been continuously running ever since the meeting had started. The climate control was fine while we were active and playing games, but once we stopped to have the more serious part of the meeting, the air conditioning was just too much. It was the heart of summer, so we were all dressed in light, summery clothes. Only a handful of the older ladies had thought to take a sweater. The pastor’s wife sent me to ask the front desk concerning turning down the air conditioning. I went to the front desk, but they made me aware that this air conditioning was at its normal settings, and they were not sure they were authorized to adjust the thermostat. They had to call in a manager in order to get approval to adjust the thermostat. It was thirty minutes before we got some rest from the air conditioning!
