I used to believe ice fishing was crazy

When the two of us moved back to our husband’s hometown I had to adapt to long winters & learn how to enjoy them.

At first I only thought about sledding, building snowmen, & even ice skating.

Growing up in the south I never had a clue about all the other Winter time activities that happen… Over the years I have l gained to enjoy hockey games, snowmobiling, & even skiing. There was one thing that I consistently refused to participate in, ice fishing. The system of sitting out on a frozen lake & drilling a hole in the ice just to try & catch a fish seemed crazy to me, and my husband was after me for years to go with him & I just declined. This year he booked a trip to the Great Lakes & said that he would be staying in an ice shack out on the lake. That made me unquestionably distraught because the system of sleeping out there was disturbing. He showed me pictures of the inside of the shack & I noticed that they even had a gas furnace on the wall. What if it melted the ice? He said that the ice was over many feet thick & there was no way that would happen. The gas furnace was hanging on the wall & powered by propane. It would allow him to stay out & fish through the holes that were cut inside. It looked unquestionably cozy in there & I was almost tempted to go with him. Of course the shack also came with an outdoor outhouse so that made our choice easier Not to go.
