A couple of years ago my family was hit by the recession entirely bad. Both my mom and pops lost their jobs. It wasn’t due to a lack of experience, but rather an elimination in positions because of financial aspects. It took our family by surprise. We’d seen and heard stories about people losing their careers, however most of them were let go because they hadn’t been working for the company for a truly long time. My mom and dad had been with their employers for over 7 years! Mom had to find a part time position at a retail store, while my pops tried something different. Instead of jumping head first into a part time position and buying time until the recession was over, he went back to school. He found an online heating and air certification that only required 3 months to get it. He’d always been interested in the Heating plus A/C field, so he saw this as an opportunity to change his career destiny and dabble in something new. Things were tight at home, however, my father was happier than ever. He enjoyed learning about heating and air conditioning, and was eager to finish his degree. Both of us all held our breath, because we didn’t know if he’d even find a position once his Heating plus A/C certification was finished. Fortunately, when he was done, he found a small, local Heating plus A/C corporation that took him in. He wasn’t making much in the start of the job, however he worked his way up the ladder into a good position.
